endeavoured to meet their wishes so far as is practicable

in the present state of wireless science. 71th this

object in view, we recommend that the ritish and Indian stations

should be doubled in power, We are advised that a ta tions cf

such strength would be capable of maintaining direct communi-

cation between India and England for a reasonable number of hours

each day, and that a service could be maintained with Australia

through India when direct communication between England and

Australia was interrantel.

5,

wo are alive to the imperative necessity ng not increasing the financial damunde mada upon the Imperial Govern-

ment, and in the prзals we now put forward there would be a

reduction not only in capital expenditura but also of the annual

charges.

6.

In their telegram cf the 12th November, 1921, the Goverment of India suggested that the Imperial Government should finance

the construction of the Indian station, or failing that, that

the work should be carried out by rivate enterprise.

7.

In view of the desirability of avoiding dual control in

the station forming the central link in the Imperial Chain, we

are of opinion that it is of vital importance that the station

in Indie should be constructed and operated by Government.

As the Government of India are unable at present to provide

the necessary fuids, we reccurrent that the construction of the

station in India should be undertaken by the Imperial Government

and that the station should be operated by the Government of India.

18 suggest that the Gсvernment of India be requested to undertaka

to repay the original poet of the Indian station as and

when the service became remunerative, which should be witkin

a few years,
